How To Make The Most Of Your Model Shoot

When scheduling your shoot allow enough lead-time to adequately prepare your wardrobe and to make all necessary beauty appointments such as: hair cut and color, teeth whitening, manicures, and waxing. Consider what time of day you look and feel your best. That should be when we shoot.

Wardrobe

Bring at least 6 different outfits; of these we will select the 3-4, which best suit you. Before you go shopping look at billboards and magazines to see what kind of work people who look like you are getting. The more variety of looks you can pull off, the more likely you are to get work. In any case, everything you buy should be in line with the most current fashions, so happy shopping! (You can return it later if you don't cut the tags). Don't be afraid to buy clothes you wouldn't be caught dead in. Modeling and acting are closely related—ever watch a runway show? Good models put on an attitude to match the clothes they wear and often those clothes are over-the-top. Agents look at hundreds of pretty faces every day—you have to stand out to make an impression. That being said make sure that the clothes highlight your best features, rather than overshadowing them. As a rule avoid busy patterns, and choose clothing that is more form fitting.

Women

There are 2 different categories for women who want to model:

  • Supermodel: If you are 5'8" or above, under 25 years and thin as a rail, you may be high-fashion runway material. All outfits should reveal and highlight your tall, skinny body. Don't forget your push up bra!
  • Commercial: Attractive, well-proportioned women (any size and age) may find more work than the supermodels, especially here in St. Louis. You don't have to show off as much skin as the supermodels, but you do want to show off your best features and hide your worst.

Outfits for either should include:

  • 2-3 very casual—sportswear. jeans, capris, shorts, swimwear and minis for those in great shape (think JCrew, Gap, DKNY sport)
  • 2-3 club wear—trendy, "going out on the town" clothes, high heels are a must (think MTV, Arden B, BEBE)
  • 1-2 business wear—supermodels-not too conservative jacket with cami or nothing under, short skirt, high heels Commercial models—shirt or cami, skirt or pants, heels.
  • 1-2 couture (optional) very dressy (think red carpet)

Men

Outfits should include:

  • 2 very casual—jeans, T-shirts or other short sleeve shirt, sportswear
  • 2 dressy casual—pants other than jeans with casual shirt, sweater or turtleneck
  • 2 business or dressy—suit and tie or pants and sport jacket, tuxedo optional

Kids

Props come in very handy with kids—backpack, books, toys, etc. Make sure the clothes look good when the child moves.

Outfits should include:

  • 4 casual
  • 2 dressy

Day before the shoot

  • If something conflicts with your appointment call to cancel ASAP. Deposits will not be refunded if a cancellation is made less than 24 hours before the shoot.
  • Make sure you have all necessary items ready to go: don't forget the little stuff—belts, socks that match, underwear that doesn't show through your clothes (unless you want it to), makeup, hairspray, and the remaining balance due.
  • Exfoliate skin with gentle abrasive and moisturize. Nails should be shaped with clear polish.
  • Get plenty of rest!

Day of the shoot

  • Allow more than enough time to get to prepare yourself and get to the shoot location on time (see map; deposit is not refundable if you're more than ½ hour late). Don't forget to eat! Hungry = crabby and crabbiness shows in photos more than that bagel and coffee will. If you are hiring the stylist come with exfoliated, well-moisturized skin and base makeup on. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time. If you have not arranged for a stylist, come with your hair and makeup ready to go.
  • Feel free to offer make any suggestions. This is YOUR shoot, and if there is anything you like or don't like, don't be afraid to speak up.
  • Pay remaining balance.
  • Have fun!
