Photography has been my passion for almost 20 years. I love it because it offers a window into other people’s lives. It enables me the opportunity to capture a moment in time that will serve as a visual cue to memories and special times with loved ones which might otherwise be forgotten. I also love photography because it is a perfect blending of life and art.
My photography journey began in 8th grade with the purchase of a Minolta point-and-shoot camera. Hundreds of darkroom hours later, I graduated from Webster University’s photojournalism program and worked at a custom printing lab, a portrait studio, and a few wedding studios. Landing a position as a lead photographer at Ladue News allowed me a myriad of shooting experiences, ranging from food to fashion. Connections made there enabled me to move into more freelance work which I have been doing ever since.
In 2008 I opened S. Carmody Photography in the heart of the Maplewood business district. The studio serves as a workspace, shooting space and also a photographic art gallery. The neighborhood has a lot of character and offers a lot of interesting backgrounds for portraiture.
